The orchestral season opened with a brilliant concert performance of Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande on a night that was characteristic of the best this orchestra can do under Kent Nagano, who celebrates his 10th year as music director. Where others might begin with some new music, a première trumpeting artistic vitality, we heard a canonical classic performed with impeccable detail and by mostly local talent.
Tradition is healthy at the OSM.
